Counting Eggs

Counting is something Lizzy really enjoys doing lately. Lizzy has mastered counting to 10 in both english and spanish, everyday she tries to learn more numbers. For the counting eggs activity I used an egg carton I decorated for this activity, and plastic eggs numbered 1-12. Inside each egg is the corresponding number of treats inside. For Lizzy I used gerber yogurt melts because she loves those things. She ates lots of yogurt drops and enjoyed counting all of them!

Early Easter Present

Lizzy got a package from her grandparents, and of course she was excited to see what was inside. Lizzy found lots of goodies in the package she especially liked the sun hat and the bubbles. The first thing she did when she saw the hat was put it on grab her bucket of bubbles and headed for the door.

New Rhythm

This past week was my 1st week at my new job. Lizzy stayed with my her grandma for 3 days and went to school the other 2 days. We had no problems, it seems Lizzy has adjusted very well. Lizzy learned to count in spanish and learned a dance routine while at grandmas, at school she had spring pictures with bunnies and a birthday party with lots of fruit and muffins.

Lizzy's 1st Egg Hunt!

We took Lizzy to the park for her 1st egg hunt this weekend and she did great, it was a lot of fun.

Inside the eggs were grapes, a couple eggs filled with playdoh, and I hid 2 special treats a chocolate ducky and some bubbles for Lizzy to find.

It was such a nice day out for Lizzy's 1st egg hunt, great weather and no crowds!

Coloring Eggs

A fun easy way to color eggs is to make some hard boiled eggs and while they are still hot use crayons to draw on them. The wax melts onto the eggs while you are drawing on it and it's a fun activity for kids and toddlers.

Popcorn and a Movie

This past weekend we watched Toy Story 3 as a family. We made some popcorn and Lizzy just couldn't get enough. She ended up eating half a bag of popcorn by herself! Toy Story 3 was a nice movie and Lizzy seemed to enjoy it.

Heels

Lizzy loves wearing mommy's shoes but she especially loves wearing heels. I don't usually wear heels very often but now that I'm back at work I have started to and Lizzy is in heaven every time she find my heels.

Blue Bell Creamery

While in Brenham, TX we visited the Blue Bell Creamery where Blue Bell ice cream got its start. There were no cameras allowed on the tour so these were the only pics we got. Lizzy wore the blue bell ice cream parlor hat the whole time and ate about a cup of ice cream at the end of the tour!

Miniature Horse Farm

The bluebonnets this year have been hard to find and the ones you see are small due to the extreme drought Texas has seen this year. In fact, this is the worse drought Texas has seen in 44 years. We headed to Brenham, TX which is "bluebonnet country" in search of a healthy field of bluebonnets and made a day out of it. We stopped at the miniature horse farm where Lizzy made friends with some small horses. She said she wanted to give the horses a hug, and she blew kisses to them.

In Texas it's a tradition to have annual bluebonnet pictures taken every year and this is Lizzy's 2nd year in the bluebonnets.

Hats

Lizzy loves wearing hats. I thought this picture was funny so I wanted to share it.

Kebabs

Lizzy has learned how to thread beads and threading toys on her own now. Not too long ago she needed help threading beads so I thought she might enjoy making kebabs as it's some what similar to threading something. She made one kebab and ate a couple pieces of pineapple then ran off. Later for dinner she ate all her pineapple which is unusual for her because she doesn't usually eat pineapple. I think this activity allowed her to try the pineapple on her terms and then have some ownership in the fact that she made her kebab herself.

Water Play

Lizzy loves playing with water. Lately she will ask to wash her hands for everything so that she can play in the sink. She loves to have the water running at full speed for longer than I'd like. I ordered an old fashioned wash bowl and pitcher for her to use and conserve water when she wants to wash her hands. I see this working better.

To satisfy Lizzy's need to play with water I usually just fill a bucket of water, add a couple cups, and a sponge for her to play with in the patio area. She loves it! Especially the sponge she likes to squeeze juicy things like fruits and squeezing the sponge full of water gives her much joy.

Pipe Cleaners

I had Lizzy do a fine motor skills activity while I worked on some crafts in hopes she would stay occupied and I could do what I was doing. But...this activity was too easy for Lizzy and she lost interest quickly.


The activity was to have her stick pipe cleaners into the holes of the strainer. It's a good activity for fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. Lizzy got the pipe cleaners right in the holes with no problem. She's doing great.


Some of her newest accomplishments are counting to 10 and counting to 5 in Spanish with complete ease. Lizzy wants to learn the alphabet so bad she asks us to sing the song and she has a set of magnetic letters she uses to learn from that she spends a lot of time with. She's getting there...her favorite letters so far are k, o, p, g, z, in that order. She'll get it soon, she's determined.

Preparing for the Vegetable Garden

Today I took Lizzy to explore all the plants at the nursery and pick out a cucumber plant for school. Lizzy's Montessori school has a vegetable garden the children prepare in the Spring, then care for, and eat from. The children will be growing okra, cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes, and watermelon. Lizzy is planting cucumbers.

Gardening and food preparation are all part of Montessori practical life. Montessori curriculum emphasizes independence. Gardening allows the child to handle actual tools, learn valuable skills, and discover where food comes from.

I'm glad that Lizzy is provided such experiences at her school. Living in an apartment we don't have a yard so anything we plant is potted on our patio but I've always dreamed of gardening with Lizzy. Growing up I had my own vegetable garden and the joys of caring for the garden and growing actual food was very rewarding for me. Someday we will have our own vegetable garden and Lizzy will have learned the skills and lessons of caring for her plants. I know this will be an experience she will never forget.
